Amanda Belichick & AJ DeSantis
Amanda’s wedding gown featured seven layers of ethereal silk chiffon, draped over a fitted silk corset, hand-embroidered with washed silk leaves.
The design process was a true collaboration, evolving from an abstract visual concept and taking shape as the fittings went on, always coming back to Amanda’s vision of a flowy, long silhouette with an organic feel, yet overall luxurious, with exquisite detail.
The top layers of silk chiffon are adorned with delicate silk leaves, hand-cut and stitched with miniature knots to outline mixed eucalyptus-leaf shapes. The opaque silk embroidered over the sheer layers creates texture and depth, and a rich palette of whites.
The silk applique drapes across the shoulders and down the fitted back, with individual leaves scattered along the skirt layers. In the light, the silk charmeuse leaves radiated a subtle shine, while the flowy chiffon embodied elegant ease and movement.
Amanda and Maya decided a bustle wouldn’t look right with the clean lines of her gown, and so to adjust the train, each chiffon layer was pre-stitched and then cut off after the ceremony and before the big party; Amanda’s wedding dress was transformed from an elegant, sweeping gown to a floor-length and lightweight dress, perfect for dancing all night.
